Israeli Influencers Cite Fear of Harsh Backlash for Avoiding Political Statements

Israeli social media star Einav Bublil addressed why many celebrities hesitate to publicly share their political views, highlighting the severe backlash they often face. During an Instagram Q&A on a Saturday night, Bublil explained that the online environment is hostile and toxic, with people frequently responding with insults, threats, and harsh criticism rather than respectful debate. She emphasized that at least half of the audience will disagree with any political stance, making public expression risky and unpleasant.

Bublil questioned why anyone would want to endure such negativity just for expressing their political opinion, noting that those who have not experienced such attacks cannot fully understand the fear that silences many public figures. This sentiment was echoed by other influencers, including Odia Pinto, who revealed that she lost a significant campaign three months ago after publicly criticizing journalist Lucy Aharish’s comments about Arab voter turnout. Pinto shared that influencers are often advised to avoid discussing politics openly to protect their careers.

Music producer Ron Biton also confirmed that 99% of artists in Israel fear revealing their political affiliations, preferring to remain neutral publicly to maintain broad appeal and relevance. He noted that while some artists express strong political opinions in private, they often soften their stance in public appearances to avoid alienating fans or industry figures.

These insights come ahead of the 2026 elections, reflecting a broader trend of public figures in Israel choosing silence over political expression due to the potential professional and personal costs involved.
