Israel’s Defense Ministry Accelerates Construction of Six New IDF Brigade Training Bases
Amir Bohbot, a senior official in the Engineering and Construction Division of Israel’s Defense Ministry, announced a major construction initiative to build six new brigade training bases (Batei Imunim Hativatiyim, or BA'CH) across Israel for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The project includes three new bases for armored brigades 7, 188, and 401, covering professional training and advanced exercises, and three additional bases for the Kfir, Nahal, and Givati infantry brigades.
The Defense Ministry regards this as an operational project with direct impact on the training and preparation of all ground forces to meet future challenges and extreme scenarios. Bohbot explained that the new bases will transform the training environment, improving basic soldier amenities such as beds, hot water, and classrooms equipped with new technology and simulators. The bases will also feature rapid tank and armored vehicle access to training areas to enhance efficiency.
Construction progress varies by base: Brigade 7’s base in northern Israel spans 20,000 square meters and is expected to receive its first recruits by August 2028. Brigade 188’s base in the Jordan Valley is under construction and slated for completion by August 2027. The Kfir brigade’s base, also in the Jordan Valley, is advancing with parts due in 2028. The Nahal base near Tel Arad is in planning, with construction starting soon as part of a five-year redevelopment project. Brigade 401’s base will be built alongside the artillery corps’ base starting in 2027. The Givati base, delayed for over 15 years, is currently in planning and expected to finish around 2031-2032.
The new bases incorporate future-oriented designs, such as covered tank maintenance centers adjacent to living quarters, bus access close to housing to reduce transit times, and new combat facilities for tanks. Medical clinics including physiotherapy will be established at all bases. Advanced tank simulators will allow training even during extreme heat. The bases will offer flexible scheduling for commanders and improved living conditions, including two-story company buildings with kitchens, lounges, showers, and shaded outdoor areas. Dining halls, synagogues, and communal facilities will be centralized near company areas to minimize walking distances for soldiers.
Security features have been enhanced based on lessons from the October 7 Hamas attacks, including reinforced infrastructure, protected spaces, perimeter fences, and measures to ensure operational continuity during emergencies.
