Former IDF Chief's Party Demands Shas Remove Election Video Misusing Soldiers
The Israeli political party Yashar!, led by former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, has sent a warning letter to the Shas party and its chairman Aryeh Deri. The letter demands the removal of a Shas election video that allegedly misuses images of IDF soldiers and the party's ballot symbol. The video shows a soldier returning home for a Sabbath meal thanking his brother, a Torah scholar, saying, "Thank you for studying Torah." Yashar! claims the video falsely implies IDF endorsement of Shas and promotes the claim that over 30,000 soldiers and reservists voted for Shas in the last election. They also argue the video violates election propaganda laws by using the party's letters during a prohibited period.
