Iranian Hackers Disable British Power Station for Four Days in Cyberattack

Hackers linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps successfully shut down a British power station for four days in an unprecedented cyberattack, according to the British Daily Telegraph. This marks the first time such an attack has managed to close a critical UK facility and is described as the most successful Iranian regime-backed cyber operation against British infrastructure to date. The incident occurred last month alongside a series of cyberattacks targeting water infrastructure in 12 U.S. states, which caused supply disruptions and raised concerns at the White House.

British officials confirmed the affected power station was offline for four days until repair teams restored its operation. They emphasized that the attack was limited in scope and did not impact the wider electricity supply or the national grid. The event was reported to the UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) amid a surge in Iranian cyberattacks on Western countries following escalating tensions in the Middle East and U.S. and Israeli airstrikes since February.

Intelligence sources believe the attack's intent was not to cause direct civilian harm but to demonstrate Iranian hackers' capability to penetrate sensitive UK systems and disrupt critical infrastructure. In response, the British government has updated security guidelines for energy company CEOs and issued new cybersecurity directives to businesses.
