Israeli Air Force Transfers Attack Helicopter Squadron North After October 7 Lessons

The Israeli Air Force has relocated its 190th Squadron, known as the Magic Touch, from Ramon Airbase in the south to Ramat David Airbase in the north. This significant operational and organizational move follows a comprehensive review of the failures experienced during the events of October 7. The transfer aims to enhance rapid response capabilities and operational readiness along Israel's northern border.

During the October 7 conflict, air crews faced extremely challenging conditions while providing support to ground forces and civilians amid a complex and unclear operational picture. In response, the IDF decided to position attack helicopters closer to the northern front to improve reaction times and effectiveness.

Air Force officials emphasize the critical role of attack helicopters in modern combat, especially under extreme conditions. A squadron member highlighted the irreplaceable value of these helicopters in difficult weather and night operations, stating, "When an attack helicopter arrives on the scene, it changes the battle." He praised the current system's efficiency and firepower, which far surpasses capabilities from previous years, underscoring the squadron's mission to secure the country and protect its borders.
