Four-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Left in Locked Car in East Jerusalem
A tragic incident occurred in East Jerusalem where a four-year-old boy was found dead after being left for an extended period in a locked vehicle. The police from the Shalem station in the Jerusalem district launched an initial investigation after receiving a report about the child, who was evacuated to the hospital undergoing resuscitation efforts. Despite medical intervention, doctors declared the boy dead upon arrival.
Family members told investigators that the child had been inside the locked car for a prolonged time. Police officers searched the scene in the Wadi al-Joz area and began collecting evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. The boy's parents and another relative were detained for questioning as the investigation continues.
Orly Silbinger, CEO of the safety organization Beterem, emphasized the dangers of leaving children in vehicles, especially during the summer heat. She noted this is the second fatality in Israel in 2026 due to children being forgotten in cars. Silbinger urged families to adopt consistent safety habits and install reminder systems to prevent such tragedies, highlighting that temperatures inside closed cars rise rapidly and can be life-threatening for children who cannot escape on their own.
