Israeli Autism Association Secures Continued Therapy Services in Eilat Amid Funding Challenges

The Israeli Autism Association, known as "Oti," is the sole organization providing Therapeutic Health Promotion (TBM) services for autistic children in Eilat. Recently, after persistent efforts and negotiations with the Ministry of Health, the association secured funding to continue operating these essential services in the city for the upcoming school year.

In recent years, the association's operations in Eilat faced significant threats due to budget constraints from the Ministry of Health, which complicated the provision of TBM services locally. Without the association's presence, autistic children and their families would have been forced to rely on health maintenance organizations (HMOs) that often have long waiting lists or require traveling long distances, sometimes leading families to pay out-of-pocket for private therapists.

The association's insistence on securing funding for the transportation and employment of therapists to Eilat was crucial in maintaining local services. This ensures that autistic children can continue receiving therapy during school hours without imposing additional burdens on their families.

Oti's CEO, Tzipi Nagel Edelstein, emphasized the critical nature of early intervention for autistic children and highlighted Eilat's unique challenges, including a severe shortage of paramedical therapists and low appointment availability. She expressed relief and commitment to keeping TBM services accessible in Eilat's kindergartens, underscoring the association's responsibility to support the city's residents in need.

The continuation of these services is expected to significantly ease the treatment process for autistic children in Eilat, avoiding the difficulties and costs associated with distant or private therapy options.
