Israeli Show Jumping Team Finishes 26th at World Championships, Eyes 2027 Olympic Qualification
The Israeli show jumping team concluded its participation in the World Championships held in Aachen, Germany, finishing 26th out of 30 teams on August 20, 2026. The team did not secure the qualification criteria for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics through this event. Despite the setback, the team remains optimistic about their chances, aiming to qualify during the 2027 regional competitions.
The competition day was challenging for Israel, with top rider Daniel Bluman, ranked sixth globally, and his horse Corbin V.V. accumulating 17 penalty points early on, significantly impacting the team's overall standing. His cousin, Mark Bluman, riding Landon de Nais, added eight penalty points, as did Teodor Boris with his horse Kazan Z. Consequently, Robin Mohr and his horse Pod'joa de Chatel did not compete, resulting in Israel's 26th place finish.
Looking ahead, Israel will have another opportunity to qualify for the Olympics at the 2027 regional qualifiers, where the top two teams will earn Olympic spots. Additionally, individual qualification remains possible under the FEI Olympic ranking system, which allows the highest-ranked riders from countries without team quotas to qualify individually.
Dr. Amichai Alperovitz, the sports director of Israel's equestrian teams, stated, "We came to the World Championships aiming to reach the final and secure Olympic qualification this summer but did not meet that goal. Every team worldwide has two chances to qualify for the Olympics: one here, where seven teams advance, and next year at regional competitions globally. We will compete in our regional qualifier and strive to win, as we did before Tokyo and Paris. Our team is deep and strong, recently strengthened by the addition of Mark Bluman and Caitlin Campbell, who will play key roles in reaching the Los Angeles final, as we did in Paris."
