Retired Judge Calls Supreme Court Ruling on Terrorist Family Reunification Illegal and Dangerous

Retired Israeli judge Haran Feinstein sharply criticized Supreme Court Justice Daphne Barak-Erez's recent decision to freeze the Shir Hajaj Law, which restricts family reunification for relatives of terrorists. Feinstein called the temporary injunction "a scandal" issued without proper authority, arguing it endangers national security by allowing families of terrorists to reunite with their imprisoned relatives in Israel. He described the ruling as "anti-Zionist" and urged the public not to comply with such judicial decisions, labeling them as unlawful and politically motivated.

Feinstein also condemned the Attorney General's Office for interfering with the formation of a national inquiry committee and accused the legal advisor of acting against the government’s interests, violating professional conduct rules. He highlighted the political nature of the legal advisor's actions, including attempts to dismiss Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, suggesting such decisions should be left to the next government. Feinstein warned that the judiciary's repeated overreach threatens the separation of powers and called for civil disobedience against unauthorized court orders.

The controversy centers on the Supreme Court's injunction freezing the Shir Hajaj Law about two weeks ago, which effectively permits family reunifications for terrorists’ relatives. Feinstein's comments came during a morning interview with Dana and Ron, where he emphasized the need to resist judicial activism that he believes undermines Israel's security and sovereignty.
