Amid the expiration of a key deadline for agreements with Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered his administration to completely halt diplomatic negotiations with Tehran. According to CNN, Trump instructed senior government envoys to stop all talks, signaling a strategic shift from a rapid confrontation approach to a policy aimed at gradually strangling Iran over time.

White House officials recently informed political allies of this change, moving away from attempts to quickly strike a deal. Trump confirmed on his Truth Social account that no diplomatic efforts are currently underway or planned with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He emphasized that the naval blockade on Iran remains fully enforced, with the Strait of Hormuz open and active, and all naval mines removed or destroyed.

This announcement follows the expiration of a 60-day deadline set in prior understandings between the two countries, which failed to produce a resolution on Iran’s nuclear program or end hostilities. The collapse of diplomacy has led to the reinstatement of sanctions and heightened tensions, particularly around the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Trump’s social media post included a map labeling the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding areas as "America's new territory," provoking sharp criticism from Iranian officials. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi dismissed Trump’s claims as illusions that would soon be corrected.
