Israeli Haredi Education District Launches Professional Support for Special Needs in Small Yeshivas

The Haredi district of Israel's Ministry of Education has introduced a new initiative to provide professional guidance and support to educational teams in small yeshivas and exempt institutions that serve students eligible for special education services. This program, operated through the specially established Matya Lasham, aims to equip staff with expertise, tools, and ongoing assistance tailored to the unique religious and cultural characteristics of these institutions.

The initiative was presented by Shai Calderon, director of the Haredi district, at the district's back-to-school conference attended by Education Ministry Director-General Meir Shimoni and senior officials. Calderon emphasized the goal of combining high-level professional special education support with full respect for the Torah-based environment and lifestyle of each institution. The program seeks to provide a dedicated professional resource to help educators better address the needs of special education students within their familiar educational frameworks.

Officials hope this move will strengthen the capacity of small yeshivas and exempt institutions to meet special education requirements while preserving their educational independence and unique character.
