How Much World Cup Money Will Reach Premier League Clubs
Most national teams have already announced their squads for the tournament in the United States, and clubs in the Israeli Premier League that send representatives could earn a significant sum. From Maccabi Haifa’s income thanks to Sek and Hora, through the amount Maccabi Tel Aviv will receive for Varela, to the surprise club, Sport 5 Published: 10.06.26, 19:01 Photo: Sport 5
The 2026 World Cup is approaching at full speed, with more and more national teams announcing their squads ahead of the major tournament. At this stage, 28 of the 48 participants have published their lists for the competition, which could provide substantial financial sums for Premier League clubs, both for the current season and for previous years.
In the previous World Cup, FIFA paid $10,950 for each day a player spent on a World Cup squad, starting 10 days before the tournament’s first match and until his elimination. The sum is paid in three parts, one third to the club the player is with during the World Cup, one third to the club he played for in 2025/26, and one third to the club he played for in 2024/25.
As a result, Francky Pierrot, who left Maccabi Haifa at the start of 2024/25, will not bring a significant amount of money to the Greens. Abdoulaye Sek, who played for the team in the previous two seasons, and Helio Varela, a Maccabi Tel Aviv player starting in 2025/26, are expected to bring their clubs $7,300 per day. Panamanian Christian Martínez has played for Kiryat Shmona since 2024/25, making it the only club that will receive the full amount, assuming Martínez is called up for the World Cup. Kenji Hora plays for Maccabi Haifa and has also been called up.
At this stage, there is no other player from the Israeli Premier League, or among players who played in Israel in 2024/25, who is expected to be called up to the World Cup. Of all the national teams mentioned, Senegal is the only one expected to advance beyond the group stage, and the amounts are the same for each player. Real Madrid will receive the same daily amount for Kylian Mbappe as Kiryat Shmona will receive for Martínez. The calculation is based on the assumption that it will begin on June 1, 10 days before the opening match.
By the way, the dollar exchange rate could have a negative effect here on Israeli football, since it is at its lowest level in years. Given that the clubs receive money in dollars and spend part of it in shekels, they may be hurt.
Other former Israeli footballers who will play in the World Cup, such as Francky Pierrot (Maccabi Haifa and Haiti) or Orlando Mosquera (Maccabi Tel Aviv and Panama), did so before 2024/25, so the clubs will not receive money.
Expected amounts: Maccabi Haifa (Kenji Hora, Abdoulaye Sek) - $7,300 per day - 55 days - $401,500 Kiryat Shmona (Christian Martínez) - $10,950 per day - 27 days - $295,650 Maccabi Tel Aviv (Helio Varela) - $7,300 per day - 25 days - $182,500 Israeli Premier League
