Gidi Gov Faces Legal Battle Over Insurance Coverage After Multi-Car Accident
Israeli singer Gidi Gov is involved in an ongoing legal dispute following a chain-reaction car accident on the Ayalon Highway. The accident led to a compensation claim by a driver whose vehicle was damaged. Insurance company Phoenix paid approximately 30,000 shekels to the affected driver but maintains that the question of insurance coverage remains unresolved in court.
According to Phoenix's defense documents, Gov was driving with a suspended license at the time of the accident. The insurer argues this violates the terms of the insurance policy, potentially exempting them from covering the damages. The defense includes details from Gov's driving record, showing an active license suspension and medical restrictions, leading Phoenix to claim Gov was not an "authorized driver" under the policy.
Phoenix has requested to be removed from the lawsuit, leaving Gov as the sole defendant responsible for the compensation. Despite their firm stance, Phoenix paid the full claim amount of 29,364 shekels as an interim measure to avoid delaying justice for the injured driver and to save court resources. The company stated that once the coverage issue is resolved in court, either Gov or Phoenix will bear the final financial responsibility.
The lawsuit was filed at the Tel Aviv Small Claims Court by the injured driver against both Gov and Phoenix. Phoenix emphasized that their payment was a temporary solution and that the legal proceedings regarding coverage are still active in the Magistrate's Court. The insurer highlighted the importance of resolving the coverage question before determining who ultimately pays for the damages.
This case underscores the complexities of insurance claims involving drivers operating vehicles without valid licenses and the legal ramifications for both the insured and the insurer.
