Manor Solomon, the Israeli footballer who recently joined West Ham United, has become the center of a controversy in England due to a politically charged chant sung by some fans. After Solomon's impressive debut against Burnley in the Championship, West Ham supporters sang a song that included the line, "Looks good, Looks fine, Manor Solomon’s on my mind & he hates Palestine." This chant, originally created by Leeds fans, has previously sparked outrage and was condemned as hate speech and discriminatory language by Leeds United in 2024.

Daniel Storey, a sports journalist for The i Paper Sport, sharply criticized the fans' behavior, calling it "disgusting" and rejecting attempts to dismiss it as harmless humor or banter. He emphasized that politics cannot be separated from football, especially when chants involve references to death and conflict. Storey noted that Solomon himself served in the Israel Defense Forces and has expressed his views on social media, but that does not justify the offensive chant. He also highlighted that some West Ham fans clearly do not keep politics out of the stands, as evidenced by the chant from the away section at Turf Moor.

Storey further criticized FIFA and UEFA for their inaction, contrasting their swift responses to Russia with their failure to address such politically charged chants. He urged football clubs to take a firm stance against songs that promote hate or conflict, warning that repeating such chants is a sad and unacceptable behavior at any time.
