Taavon Home Designed to Adapt from Solitude to Large Family Gatherings
Located in Taavon, this 250-square-meter house was designed to seamlessly transition between the daily life of a single woman and lively family gatherings on weekends and holidays. Interior designer Shani Sela and Kasel Architects focused on creating a home that feels intimate and comfortable for one person but can easily open up to accommodate the homeowner's four adult children, their families, and grandchildren. Public spaces are arranged to host large groups, while guest rooms are distributed across two floors to maintain privacy even when the house is full.
A key architectural principle was to blur the boundary between the indoor spaces and the lush garden outside. Natural materials such as exposed concrete, stone, wood, and iron are combined with warm, muted colors to integrate the landscape into the home’s design. Vertical wooden slats at the entrance filter sunlight and create dynamic light patterns, while a stone wall extends from the entrance into the interior, linking different parts of the house and incorporating a built-in iron bookshelf.
The kitchen, designed for both solo cooking and group use, features wide work surfaces, ample storage, and a large island facing the garden, pool, and terrace. Lighting was carefully planned with layered systems including recessed spots, floor lighting, and decorative fixtures to adapt to different moods, from intimate evenings to large family meals. The living room flows directly into the terrace, which functions as an additional room with adjustable pergolas and screens to control sunlight and privacy.
Private areas include the owner’s suite, designed with soft, light materials to create a calm atmosphere, and distinct guest rooms, each with unique bathroom designs to avoid repetitive layouts. The garden lighting is subtle, highlighting paths and plants without overwhelming the outdoor space. The overall concept allows the house’s 250 square meters to flexibly adjust to the homeowner’s needs rather than forcing her to adapt to the space.
This project was managed by Hadad Projects with lighting by Light In from Herzliya Pituah, exemplifying a home that balances solitude and family life through thoughtful architecture and design.
