Democratic Candidate Moshe Redman Labels West Bank Council Head Yossi Dagan 'One of Israel's Most Dangerous'
Moshe Redman, a Democratic Party candidate and a leading figure in the Kaplan protest movement, sharply criticized Yossi Dagan, head of the Shomron Regional Council, over the establishment of settlements and the return to northern Samaria. Redman posted on X a photo of Dagan with settlers from the Kadim settlement, which was evacuated during the disengagement plan and is slated for reestablishment this summer. He wrote, "Their achievement is damage to all of us. After the disengagement law was repealed, the extreme right is returning another flashpoint to northern Samaria, this time the isolated Kadim settlement."
Redman directly called Dagan "one of the most dangerous people for the continued existence of the State of Israel," despite describing him as a smiling and warm person. This attack coincided with an editorial in Haaretz titled "Steal as Much as You Can," which criticized the government and settlers for creating facts on the ground amid ongoing elections, ignoring the occupation and the Palestinian issue. The editorial warned that without a drastic political shift, "the next disaster is only a matter of time."
Additionally, Haaretz blogger and left-wing commentator Shmuel Meir condemned Dagan, calling him the de facto commander of northern West Bank and suggesting that military leadership is secondary to his influence. These critiques come amid renewed settlement activity and political tensions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the future of the West Bank.
