Paz Freezes Bitcoin Purchases via Yellow App After Bits of Gold Cyberattack
Paz Group has suspended its partnership with crypto service provider Bits of Gold following a recent cyberattack reported by the latter. The collaboration, launched last month, allowed Yellow app users to convert their accumulated points into Bitcoin purchases through Bits of Gold. Bits of Gold disclosed that a cyber incident occurred several days ago, likely compromising customer data including full names, ID numbers, email addresses, IP addresses, and phone numbers. This breach is linked to a broader global cyberattack involving Meta Base software, which Bits of Gold uses. Hundreds of companies worldwide were affected, though no other Israeli firms have been identified so far.
In response, Paz decided to halt the cooperation and remove the Bitcoin conversion option from the Yellow app wallet until the investigation concludes. Paz emphasized there is no risk of Yellow customer data leakage, noting no direct interface exists between the apps and that the service has been stopped. Bits of Gold also stressed the importance of data security, confirming no direct purchase interface exists between the apps and that the service suspension was a joint decision. The cooperation agreement remains valid, and Bits of Gold’s other services continue operating normally.
Bits of Gold, employing about 55 people and serving approximately 250,000 registered customers, considers the deal with Paz its most significant B2B2C expansion. The company previously partnered on similar models, including the "MAX Back Crypto" credit card with MAX, offering Bitcoin cashback, and crypto payment options with car importer Colmobil. Bits of Gold is the first among nine licensed digital asset financial service providers authorized by the Israeli Capital Market Authority.
