South Hebron Hills Offers Unique Tourism with Wineries, Workshops, and Desert Lodging
In the South Hebron Hills region of the Judean Desert, a growing tourism sector is attracting visitors with a variety of unique experiences including wineries, nature lodges, and cultural workshops. The area, near Mount Hebron and the eastern part of the Yatir region, is known for its open grazing lands, vineyards producing rosé wine, and hospitality farms offering diverse accommodations such as forest cabins and desert tents.
One notable site is the "Cabin in the Forest" located within the Maon farm near the Maon settlement, where owner Orit Steiner emphasizes the combination of high-quality hospitality with a connection to the biblical heritage and natural surroundings. The site features a special wading pool called the "spring pool," designed for relaxation rather than swimming.
Another highlight is the Midrag lookout, which offers panoramic views of the Judean Desert and hosts group lodging for up to 40 guests in a desert atmosphere with basic amenities. Additionally, a family-friendly cabin is available near a sunrise viewpoint. Beyond lodging, local farmers organize guided tours, leadership workshops, educational group activities, Israeli folk song evenings, and stargazing events.
The region is also home to several renowned wineries. On September 3, 2026, the Yatir Tourism Association will host a special music and wine festival featuring performances by Mark Eliyahu and Bar Tsabari, alongside gourmet food and free wine tastings. Visitors are encouraged to explore the area's unique offerings and support the pioneering communities in the Hebron Hills. More information and registration details are available on the Yatir Tourism website.
