Nearly 500 Members of Israel's Largest Online Torah Network Tour Jerusalem's Old City
In a special gesture of appreciation for the dedication of learners in the world's largest telephone Torah study network, the Or Olam Center organized a unique series of guided tours in Jerusalem's Old City during the intermediate days of the Jewish festival period. Within hours of opening registration, hundreds signed up, culminating in nearly 500 participants, including members of the Zichron Olam and Meiri Olam kollels, along with their children.
The guided tour took place at the historic site of Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid's ruins in the Jewish Quarter and the southern area of the Western Wall. Rabbi Israel Goldwasser, head of the kollels and a renowned lecturer, led the group, providing insightful and inspiring commentary. The event highlighted the unity of diverse Jewish communities, Sephardic, Hasidic, and Lithuanian Torah scholars, learning together in harmony.
The event's climax featured two separate emotional gatherings: one for the hundreds of Meiri Olam children and another for the Zichron Olam scholars. Participants gathered on the historic steps leading to the Temple Mount, where they reviewed and recited Torah passages aloud, creating a powerful and moving atmosphere. Prominent rabbis, including Rabbi Naftali Flintenstein, Rabbi Moshe Rothschild, and Rabbi Avraham Sternfeld, addressed the groups, emphasizing the importance of Torah study during this special time.
Rabbi Goldwasser remarked on the profound impact of combining Torah learning with historic locations, calling it a "magnificent and uplifting sight." The event's logistics were managed by Rabbi Mordechai Rosenberg, who ensured participants' comfort with refreshments throughout the tour. The Or Olam Center's chairman, Rabbi Chanoch Zvi Rubinstein, praised the initiative as a testament to Torah's power to unite all Jewish communities and expressed commitment to expanding this sacred endeavor.
