Activist Group Files Bar Association Complaint Over Netanyahu Family Lawyer’s Reserve Duty Delays
The “Brothers in Arms for Democracy” group has filed a complaint with the Israel Bar Association against attorney Uriel Nazri, who represents the Netanyahu family, accusing him of repeatedly seeking court delays and extensions by citing reserve duty. The complaint, first reported Sunday evening on Channel 14, says Nazri used reserve service in at least seven separate cases to obtain postponements, often at the last minute.
In the filing, the complainants said they saw “a clear and troubling pattern of systematic exploitation of reserve-duty claims to obtain extensions and delays.” However, the examples cited do not allege that Nazri’s reserve service was not real or was illegal. Nazri serves as a combat officer with the rank of captain. He has reportedly commanded an operational command post at an outpost in Syria and is currently serving in combat roles in the Gaza Strip.
According to people familiar with the matter, Nazri has done hundreds of reserve days since the war began, including rest, acclimatization, and other operational components. In his response, Nazri called the complaint a “false complaint” meant to intimidate a lawyer in order to disrupt legal proceedings while cases are still ongoing. He said he has served hundreds of reserve days since October 7 and has already passed 700 days of service, at personal cost to his family, children, and business.
Nazri also argued that the complaint amounts to an attack on reservists and lawyers, harms democratic foundations, and insults judges who issued clear rulings in the various cases. The Brothers and Sisters in Arms response said Nazri was seen at a seaside cafe in Bat Yam on the day in question while telling the court he was on reserve duty, and asked how many similar days he had reported as reserve service and been paid for by the state.
