Israel Illuminates Jerusalem Bridge to Celebrate India’s 79th Independence Day

Jerusalem’s iconic Chords Bridge was lit up with the flags of Israel and India on Saturday evening to mark the 79th anniversary of India’s independence. This gesture symbolized the warm and strategic partnership between the two countries. Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion expressed pride in joining India’s celebrations, describing India as an important ally and strategic partner of Israel. He highlighted the close ties with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and wished for continued strengthening of the relationship between the nations and their peoples.

The Israel-India relationship is defined as a comprehensive strategic partnership that has significantly deepened in recent years. India is a major buyer of Israeli defense and security technology, while Israel views India as a vital political and economic anchor in Asia. Beyond defense and intelligence cooperation, the two countries collaborate extensively in agriculture, water management, technology, and cybersecurity. They also engage in regional geopolitical initiatives such as the I2U2 forum and the IMEC trade corridor linking India to Europe via the port of Haifa.
