Prof. Yuval Elbashan says Yariv Levin made the first mistake in judicial reform talks
Professor Yuval Elbashan said on Channel 14’s "Sicha" with Oded Hres that efforts to reach a compromise during the judicial overhaul came very close to success. According to him, Justice Minister Yariv Levin had already agreed to a deal, and the side that refused was "the other side."
Elbashan said, "We were very close to a compromise agreement. Justice Minister Yariv Levin made the first mistake. He went all the way, but his mistake is forgivable, because he received the mandate." He argued that the real issue was the intention of certain actors "to light a fire here."
He said Levin expected "a million people in the streets," but did not anticipate "one more thing, a sword," a reference to pilots threatening to stop volunteering. Elbashan also claimed that the other camp said there would be no compromise at all.
He added that he told the government, "They are ready to burn the street," and accused anti-Netanyahu activists, including the Kaplan protest movement, of being mislabeled as the left. "There is no left in them," he said. He concluded, "The left cannot say: 'The Supreme Court.'"
