Hezbollah Secretary-General Naeem Qassem Raises Stakes Against Israel Ahead of Eighth Lebanon-Israel Conflict Round

Ahead of the anticipated eighth round of conflict between Lebanon and Israel, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naeem Qassem intensified his opposition to political negotiations and the disarmament of his organization. He reaffirmed Hezbollah's steadfast position, stating there is no change in the group's stance. Qassem criticized the Lebanese government for conceding its rights, specifically condemning the framework agreement that he claims strips Lebanese authorities of their ability to legally challenge Israel. He argued that the agreement grants Israel everything it wants and undermines Lebanon's sovereignty.

Qassem emphasized Hezbollah's commitment to its chosen path, warning that anyone betting on surrender is deluded. He also revealed that the United States has informed Lebanese leadership it cannot fully prevent Israeli military actions but has urged that any such operations be limited and precise to minimize civilian harm and avoid collapsing the fragile understanding between Israel and Lebanon. According to a security source, Israel views its control over a strategic ridge as a military achievement it will not relinquish, making Hezbollah's response crucial for Beirut.

Separately, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reported a hacking incident involving his social media account, though no evidence has linked the breach to Israel or any other party. Salam also criticized internal actors for dragging Lebanon into futile proxy wars that have provided Israel with pretexts to attack Lebanon, violate its sovereignty, destroy its cities and villages, kill its people, and displace hundreds of thousands.
