Celebrate International Popsicle Day with a Creamy Chocolate-Banana Tofu Popsicle Recipe
In honor of International Popsicle Day, a unique homemade dessert recipe has been shared that offers a twist on the classic summer treat. This version features a creamy chocolate-banana popsicle made with soft tofu as the base, combining the mild flavor of tofu with bananas, cocoa, and either silan (date syrup) or maple syrup. The result is a creamy popsicle enriched with plant-based protein.
Ilan Sapriel, co-owner of Weiler Farm, explains that tofu is a versatile ingredient that absorbs flavors well and can be used in sweet dishes like this popsicle. The recipe is also designed as a fun summer activity for families, where children can peel bananas, add ingredients, taste the mixture, and pour it into molds, while adults handle the blender.
The preparation takes about ten minutes, followed by freezing for at least six hours. The recipe yields 6 to 8 popsicles and includes ingredients such as 300 grams of soft tofu, two large ripe bananas, four tablespoons each of cocoa powder and silan or maple syrup, a quarter cup of soy or oat milk, two tablespoons of coconut cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Optional toppings include shredded coconut, colorful sprinkles, or chopped chocolate.
The method involves draining the tofu, blending all ingredients until smooth, tasting and adjusting sweetness or consistency, then freezing the mixture in molds. A tip suggests using coconut cream for a creamier texture without a strong coconut flavor, with peanut butter as an alternative if there are no allergies.
