Cabinet Meeting Moved Underground Amid Fears of Iranian Retaliation
Israel’s government secretariat informed members of the political and security cabinet that a meeting set to open within about an hour would be moved to an underground bunker, amid fears that Iran might launch missiles at Israel in response to an IDF strike in Beirut’s Dahieh district. Before the meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held security consultations as part of preparations for a possible Iranian reaction.
At the session, ministers are expected to approve a framework to resolve where American refueling aircraft will be stationed at Ben Gurion Airport. They are also expected to approve a budget of 1 billion shekels to finance the establishment of dozens of settlements in Judea and Samaria.
In addition, the ministers will receive updates on the emerging US-Iran agreement and its possible implications for Lebanon. Israeli officials fear that if such an agreement is reached, Washington could also pressure Israel to agree to a ceasefire and withdrawals.
