New Haredi Party 'Achi' Gains Traction Ahead of Israeli Elections

A new Haredi political party named 'Achi,' associated with Rabbi Yoram Abergel and his followers in Netivot, has announced its intention to run in the upcoming Israeli Knesset elections. The party, which first emerged in the recent municipal elections in Netivot where it won seven seats, is attracting significant interest among right-wing voters across Israel. 'Achi' is led by Rabbi Yuval Elimelech, an educator from the south who managed Rabbi Abergel's institutions for many years. Key figures include former Elad deputy mayor Avi Dayan, Israel Aflalo who managed Haredi recruitment to the IDF for two decades, Rabbi Erez Reuven, and attorney Yaakov Pelehimer who heads the party's campaign.

The party's platform emphasizes that those who study Torah will receive full support to continue their studies, while those who do not will be required to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces. 'Achi' also advocates integrating core secular studies alongside religious education in Haredi schools. Additionally, the party addresses economic issues and the high cost of living. According to a senior party official, they currently have a potential voter base exceeding 70,000, with growing interest among Haredi and traditional communities nationwide.

While the party insists it will run through the entire election process and expects to add more notable members, it remains to be seen if it will form alliances with other parties. Observers anticipate further developments in the coming weeks as the election campaign progresses.
