Likud MK Ariel Kallner Acknowledges Internal Pressure From Reserved Seats Ahead of Primaries

Likud Member of Knesset Ariel Kallner admitted that the increasing number of reserved seats within the party reduces his chances of advancing on the party list, but he dismissed the possibility of a party split. In an interview with 103FM on August 11, 2026, Kallner described the competitive race among party members and set a personal goal of securing 25,000 votes in the upcoming primaries.

Kallner began with a light tone, noting that Likud provides ample news material even during slow political periods. Despite internal tensions, he expressed confidence that the recent reserved seats would not fracture the party's unity. He emphasized that a split within Likud is unrealistic and not on the agenda.

He shared that he has been traveling across the country for two weeks, seeking support from Likud members, contrasting this with other parties where candidates also campaign extensively among their large memberships. Kallner acknowledged that each reserved seat effectively blocks his progress but understands that these seats aim to bring new people into the party and serve various political purposes, with the ultimate goal being electoral victory.

Beyond reserved seats, Kallner noted the presence of organized interest groups within Likud, which is common in politics generally. However, he stressed that the decisive factor remains the free vote of the party's approximately 150,000 members, estimating that 60 to 70 percent of them vote independently without external influence. These free votes will shape the party list.

Setting a clear target, Kallner and his team aim to garner 25,000 votes, acknowledging the challenge involved. He highlighted his efforts to present his achievements and vision for the future. Despite personal ambitions, Kallner affirmed his loyalty to the party and the state, placing national and party interests above his own advancement.
