Vitinha marvels at Ronaldo’s physique, says Portugal must focus on Congo first

Portugal and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha was asked at a press conference at the national team’s training camp in Palm Beach about Cristiano Ronaldo’s extraordinary fitness, after viral beach photos showed the 41-year-old in striking shape ahead of a possible sixth World Cup appearance. Vitinha said the images were real, not edited, and used them as proof of Ronaldo’s discipline.

“I can assure you it’s not Photoshop, it’s real,” he said. “It’s unbelievable that he still looks like that at 41. I’m 26 and I don’t look like that. It’s proof of how committed he is and how important it is to him to take care of his body and his fitness. We went to the beach, had some fun, and I think that’s important too.”

Vitinha was then asked about the dream scenario of a World Cup final between Portugal and Argentina, which could bring Ronaldo and Lionel Messi face to face again. He said he would welcome any final, adding, “If it’s against Argentina, I sign now.” Still, he stressed that Portugal are not there yet and must first concentrate on Congo.

The midfielder also reflected on playing alongside Ronaldo and Messi, saying it is a great privilege and that he learned a lot from both. “For me they are the two best players in history,” he said, adding that sharing a dressing room and a pitch with them was an enormous honor. When asked why he is rarely mentioned for major individual awards, Vitinha said he is comfortable in his role and will not change his personality just to receive more recognition.
