Larry David Returns With New HBO Sketch Series, Backed by the Obamas
HBO has released the official trailer for Larry David’s new sketch series, "Life, Larry, And The Pursuit Of Unhappiness," which premieres on June 26 and will run for seven weekly episodes. The show marks David’s return to television after the end of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," the comedy most closely associated with him.
According to HBO’s official synopsis, the series plays on the familiar warning about learning history and promises that "those who do not know history are doomed to watch Larry David repeat it." The network said the show will feature some actors from "Curb Your Enthusiasm" along with additional guest stars, but it has not yet revealed the full cast.
David and his longtime collaborator Jeff Schaffer are behind the project as writers and executive producers, and Schaffer also directs. The two worked together for years on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and are reuniting for this new production.
A notable part of the series is the involvement of former U.S. President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, who are executive producers through their company Higher Ground, along with Ethan Lewis and Vinnie Malhotra. Higher Ground, founded by the Obamas, has become a major production company in film, television and podcasts, with credits including the Oscar-winning documentary "American Factory," as well as "Leave the World Behind," "Rustin," "Crip Camp" and "American Symphony." The final episode is scheduled for August 7.
