New Latin Caribbean Bistro Opens in Kfar Saba, Honoring October 7 Victim
La Amaya, a new Latin Caribbean bistro, has opened at 3 Hayotzrim Street in Kfar Saba. The owners, Noga Beiga-Basson and Noam Basson, say they see strong demand for good restaurants outside Tel Aviv and had already tested the market by opening Augustin in Ra'anana in June 2024.
The restaurant is built around flavors they believe suit Israeli tastes, especially spicy, sour, and sweet notes, while using local ingredients and keeping the spirit of Latin American cooking. The menu includes cheese and herb quesadillas for 44 shekels, handmade empanadas with corn or meat for 49, sea fish ceviche for 59, smoked corn and chipotle soup for 49, Caribbean fish balls called bolitas de fish for 73, a Brazilian vegan dish for 65, and chicken or beef burritos for 69 or 72 shekels.
The nearly hidden space has a large central bar and warm design inspired by a Latin home, with arches, textiles, wood, and collected decor. The restaurant is intended as a piece of South America in the heart of Kfar Saba, with a lively atmosphere that guests visit for food and return to for the ambiance.
Beiga-Basson previously served as CEO and co-manager of the Noir Group, while Basson has about 25 years of experience as head chef, including at the Yarzin-Sella Group. They said that after years as employees, they felt it was time to build something of their own, with more confidence and balance than before.
La Amaya, meaning "paradise," is dedicated to Mai Ne'im z"l, the granddaughter of coach Shlomo Sherf, who was murdered on October 7 in the Bari shelter. The family said Mai, who was part of their lives for nearly 20 years, is also remembered through the Shpirot of Mai association, which funds and organizes bar and bat mitzvah celebrations for children from low-income families.
