IDF Says Gaza Border Sirens Were Triggered by False Alarm
Red alert sirens sounded on Sunday in several communities in the Gaza border area, including Kfar Azza, Zimrat, Shuva and Saad. The IDF said the details were being checked when the alerts first went off.
Less than three minutes later, the Home Front Command announced that the incident had ended and that people in protected spaces could leave. The IDF then confirmed that the sirens were caused by a false identification.
This was the second time in the past 24 hours that sirens were activated in southern Israel because of a false alarm. During the night, warning sirens also sounded in the Eilat area over a suspected hostile aircraft intrusion, which was later found to be another false identification.
A similar incident took place last Friday, when a false identification triggered sirens in the kibbutzim of Nahal Oz and Alumim.
