Yuval Dayan Shows Her Offstage Routine and Silences the ‘Glitzy Singer’ Stereotype

Singer Yuval Dayan gave followers a rare look into her private life on Saturday night, sharing a video of ordinary routines that drew tens of thousands of views online. Alongside the post, she wrote, “They said a singer’s life is glamorous, so they said,” and added humorously, “You can take the singer out of Ashdod, but you can’t take Ashdod out of the singer.”

The clips showed Dayan doing everyday chores, including laundry, cleaning the house, and cooking large pots of food. The post quickly drew warm reactions, with commenters praising her humility and down-to-earth image, writing things such as, “Nothing beats your humility,” “The most important thing is keeping your feet on the ground,” and “There is nothing like simple and modest life.”

Dayan first became known in 2012, at age 17, after appearing on a reality TV show. She performed “Sh'arit shel HaChayim” in her audition and made it to the semifinals, where she surprised viewers by announcing live that she was quitting the competition.

In 2016, Dayan began the process of returning to religious observance. She has said she had already been visiting synagogue on Friday nights before then, and in recent years she has spoken openly about balancing music and Torah life while trying to stay true to both her faith and her creative work.
