Regev warns Netanyahu: keep U.S. planes parked in Israel and millions of flights could be canceled
Transportation Minister Miri Regev sent an urgent letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, when the Israel Airports Authority is expected to notify airlines that flights may be canceled if the parking shortage at Ben Gurion Airport is not resolved. She said the issue must be addressed before that date to avoid widespread disruption.
In her letter, Regev warned that if some of the U.S. refueling aircraft currently parked at Ben Gurion Airport and Ramon Airport are not moved immediately, more than 2.4 million airline tickets for the summer season and the Jewish High Holidays could be canceled. She called for transferring part of the aircraft to Israel Air Force bases or to airports outside Israel.
Regev also said the fallout could affect Breslov Hasidim planning to fly to Uman for Rosh Hashanah.
