Sydney Sweeney steals the spotlight at Knicks’ NBA Finals clincher
The New York Knicks’ first championship in 53 years should have been the main story of the night, but social media focused on actress Sydney Sweeney during Game 5 of the Finals against San Antonio. Sweeney, one of Hollywood’s most talked-about stars, arrived in San Antonio with her partner Scooter Braun wearing a special Jalen Brunson Knicks shirt, and cameras caught her before tipoff, sending images across social platforms within minutes.
Her appearance also drew attention inside the NBA broadcast itself. When cameras showed the celebrity section, Charles Barkley reacted in surprise, asking live, “Sydney Sweeney is here?” He then joked, “Suddenly everyone is a New York Knicks fan.”
Sweeney was not the only famous person in the arena. Prince Harry, Spike Lee, Ben Stiller, Timothée Chalamet, Fat Joe, Patrick Ewing, Tracy Morgan and several other celebrities were also in attendance. Still, much of the online conversation centered on the star of Euphoria and The White Lotus.
Fans responded with a wave of jokes and viral posts. One user said that if the Knicks won the title, Sweeney deserved a ring too. Another wrote that she made them watch the game and it was worth it. A widely shared post said that with Sweeney in the stands, the team had no choice but to win. One of the most viral moments came from a young boy seated near her, whose stunned expression while she took a selfie drew hundreds of thousands of likes and many memes. Sweeney did not comment, but her images became one of the night’s biggest talking points even as the Knicks completed their historic title run.
