Retired General Yaakov Amidror Warns Israel Against Qatar After Gaza War

Retired Major General Yaakov Amidror sharply criticized Qatar on Israel's 103FM radio on August 4, 2026, warning that once the current Gaza conflict ends, Israel should confront Qatar due to its support for anti-Israel activities. Amidror recalled that a decade ago, American Jewish visitors were invited by Qatar to meet its leaders, but he dismissed their importance, saying Qatar seeks only legitimacy while using Al Jazeera and financial influence worldwide to oppose Israel.

Amidror expressed concern about the proposed international force in Gaza, fearing it could restrict Israeli military operations. He emphasized Israel's interests must be protected and that any agreement involving Gaza must include Israel. He acknowledged the U.S. military commands the foreign forces in Gaza and insisted Israel would act decisively if Hamas accessed weapons caches, even without U.S. approval, warning that such actions would nullify any agreement.

Regarding the international force, Amidror said it would likely hinder Israeli actions since Israel would hesitate to strike near foreign troops, while Hamas would not hesitate to attack them. He stated that although the U.S. commands the force, Israel doubts it will ensure sufficient security.

Amidror also addressed U.S. policy toward Iran, noting Washington’s two-step approach: first reopening the Strait of Hormuz, then preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He said the U.S. is currently focused on the Hormuz issue as a preliminary phase before nuclear negotiations. Amidror highlighted that the Lebanese government desires the disarmament of Hezbollah, reflecting regional dynamics.

The interview underscored Israeli concerns about Qatar’s role in the conflict, the challenges posed by international forces in Gaza, and the evolving U.S. strategy on Iran’s nuclear ambitions and regional security.
