Lancet Calls for Suspension of Israeli Medical Association From World Medical Association
The Lancet, one of the world’s two leading medical journals, has called for the Israeli Medical Association, or IMA, to be suspended from the World Medical Association, or WMA. The journal said the IMA had “failed to condemn the genocide of the Palestinians, the destruction of Gaza’s health system and the torture of detainees.”
The unusual item appeared under the journal’s “World Report” section and marks another step in the escalation of boycott pressure on Israeli medical and academic institutions amid the war.
According to the report, 1,150 health professionals have signed a petition urging the WMA to suspend the Israeli association.
