Woman Seriously Injured in Shark Attack at Sydney Beach

A woman in her 30s was badly injured after being bitten by a shark at Coogee Beach in eastern Sydney, local authorities said. Bystanders pulled her from the water, and emergency crews airlifted her to hospital by helicopter.

Following the attack, Coogee Beach and two nearby beaches were closed. Officials did not immediately identify the woman or give further details on her condition beyond saying her injuries were serious.

The incident comes in an area of Australia where shark attacks are most common, along the east and southeast coasts, which average about 20 shark attacks a year.
