Nikolsburg Rebbe Unites Diverse Jewish Vacationers with Warmth and Unity in Catskills
Each summer, the renowned "Klal Yisrael Shul" synagogue in the Catskill Mountains town of Woodbourne, New York, draws thousands of vacationers, guests, and passersby from across the spectrum of Haredi and Jewish communities. Operated by the Nikolsburg Rebbe, the synagogue has become a defining landmark of the resort area. It runs continuously 24/7, hosting hundreds of prayer services daily, including Shacharit, Mincha, and Maariv.
Beyond spiritual needs, the Rebbe personally ensures the physical well-being of visitors by providing free food, hot drinks, cakes, and soup around the clock. A touching and familiar sight at the complex is the Rebbe himself wearing an apron, seen frequently in the kitchen alongside his sons preparing meals, slicing watermelons, and serving the crowds.
The vibrant "Klal Yisrael Shul" warmly welcomes Jews from all backgrounds and denominations, Hasidim, Lithuanian Jews, modern Orthodox, and even those not strictly observant. The Rebbe is known for his loving approach, often leading spontaneous singing and dancing with youth and visitors. He has also posted prominent signs throughout the synagogue area calling for an end to disputes and emphasizing the critical importance of unity and peace among all Jews.
