Wembanyama insists Spurs can still rally from 3-1 down
Victor Wembanyama says San Antonio still believes it can overturn a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals after blowing a 29-point lead against New York in Game 4. The Spurs now face a must-win Game 5 at home, with the Knicks able to clinch the championship on the road for the first time since 1973.
Wembanyama, who struggled in the fourth game, said, "Everyone knows we're coming back from 3:1. We know we'll do it." He added that San Antonio must focus only on the next game: "I think we need to ignore the previous game, take it game by game. It would be a mistake to focus on what happened in the last game."
The Spurs will host Game 5 of the NBA Finals, and if necessary, Game 7 as well. Only one team has ever recovered from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals, Cleveland in 2016, and that came without home-court advantage. This season, Detroit also turned a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 series win over Orlando in the first round.
