Pakistan says US-Iran peace draft has been finalized
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday evening that a final, agreed version of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran has been drafted. In a post on X, he said Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to work out the next steps and added, “Peace has never been as close as it is now.”
Earlier in the day, Sharif criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments about the Iranians, calling them “very disrespectful people,” after what he described as an inaccurate leak of negotiation details. Trump also condemned a drone attack on Indian ships that had left the Strait of Hormuz the previous night.
According to Trump, the attack was fully repelled and was “completely unacceptable,” adding that those responsible should “get their act together, and quickly.”
Shortly after Trump’s remarks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote that a memorandum of understanding with the United States had “never been closer,” and said that under Iran’s “responsible and transparent” approach, all details would be made public in due course.
