Special Summer Camp Brings Joy and Care to Children with Disabilities Near Western Wall

The 'Aleh' network recently concluded a special summer camp designed for children and youth with severe disabilities, including rare syndromes, autism, and complex cerebral palsy. Over three days, dozens of participants experienced tailored activities that provided joy, empowerment, and a safe environment adapted to their diverse medical and functional needs. The camp's medical and logistical framework was meticulously organized, featuring 24/7 medical supervision, oxygen tanks, advanced first aid facilities, and specialized nutrition plans ranging from pureed food to direct feeding.

Each child was paired with a dedicated personal mentor to ensure all individual needs were met, reflecting the camp's commitment to inclusivity and care. Funding for this extensive humanitarian effort came from broad community support and a targeted fundraising campaign, offering families a much-needed respite from their daily challenges involving hospitals and treatments. One mother, M., shared her emotional journey with her daughter Abigail, who was born healthy but later diagnosed with rare genetic mutations and epilepsy, highlighting the camp's positive impact on both the child and her family.

The camp's climax was a moving visit to the Western Wall plaza in Jerusalem, where children, some in wheelchairs and connected to medical devices, were able to touch the sacred stones and pray.
