Rabbi Shimon Galai Shares Personal Recovery Story and Dances at Bnei Brak 'Asherichem' Event

On Saturday night in Bnei Brak, thousands of yeshiva students gathered for the "Asherichem" event, where Rabbi Shimon Galai delivered an emotional and inspiring speech. For the first time, Rabbi Galai recounted a personal story from about 25 years ago when he was severely ill and bedridden. Despite his dire condition, he told his physiotherapist, "You will see that I will dance," expressing his faith that God could heal him. After sharing this, Rabbi Galai stood up, took the hands of the young men present, and began dancing with them, prompting a spontaneous and joyous response from the crowd.

Rabbi Galai used the occasion to encourage the yeshiva students, especially amid current public criticisms of Torah study. He suggested renaming the event from "Asherichem" to "Kiddush Hashem" (sanctification of God's name) and expressed admiration for the students' dedication. He emphasized that the opposition they face stems from envy of their vitality, joy, and holiness. The event marked the conclusion of the summer study period and was part of the "Mosif VeHolech" initiative, with participation from Degel HaTorah chairman and Bnei Brak deputy mayor Menachem Shapira, supported by Mayor Chanoch Zeibert.

The evening included a festive third meal, evening prayers, a ceremonial Havdalah, and a "Melaveh Malka" accompanied by inspirational songs lasting late into the night. Rabbi Galai's personal testimony and spontaneous dance became a highlight, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
