US and Iran may sign emerging deal in Geneva this weekend
The United States is preparing for the possibility that an agreement with Iran could be signed as soon as this coming weekend in Geneva, Switzerland, Axios reported Friday. As part of the preparations, four U.S. Air Force planes have flown to Europe, reportedly ahead of a possible visit by Vice President J.D. Vance, who could lead the American delegation and sign a memorandum of understanding.
The signing has not been finalized and still depends on final approval from both sides. Iran's Foreign Ministry said no final decision has been made, and called reports about the timing and location of the signing premature.
The emerging agreement is expected to extend the ceasefire by 60 days, immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz without tolls, ease sanctions, and launch detailed negotiations on Iran's nuclear program and its stockpile of enriched uranium.
