Eight Premature Infants at Rambam Test Positive for Resistant Bacterium, Without Symptoms
Eight premature babies hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit at Rambam Medical Center were found in recent days to be carriers of CA-MRSA, a bacterium resistant to several antibiotics. The information was reported by ynet.
According to the report, none of the infants has developed symptoms or illness so far. The hospital case was reported to the Ministry of Health.
CA-MRSA is a strain of staphylococcus that can be difficult to treat because of antibiotic resistance, but in this case the newborns are currently asymptomatic carriers rather than patients with active disease.
