Lonnie Walker, a player for Maccabi Tel Aviv, is using his offseason to give back to his hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania, by running a basketball camp for local children and teenagers. The camp, which began with a workshop for kids aged 7 to 11 on Monday and continues with sessions for ages 12 to 16, attracts hundreds of young basketball players. Local media have dubbed Walker a "local hero for the kids" due to his ongoing commitment to the community.

This camp is part of Walker's broader community efforts through a foundation he established in 2019. Since then, he has held annual basketball camps and dedicated both financial resources and personal time to inspire youth. Walker emphasized his motivation: "We just want to inspire these young people, to show them there is light at the end of the tunnel. This is something I do for the city, the community, the kids. It has always been a dream for me to give back and do the best I can. When older people, coaches, and teachers come back to coach and talk to you, it means a lot."
