Mushka Meshulam Visits Brother’s Grave After 26 Years, Closing a Painful Chapter

Mushka Meshulam visited the grave of her brother Yosef Chaim Dashif for the first time in 26 years, closing a long-standing emotional chapter for her family. Yosef Chaim died in a traffic accident in Ness Ziona when he was nine years old. Mushka, who was 12 at the time, shared in an interview with C14 the reasons her family avoided visiting the grave for decades and the deep impact of the loss on their lives.

She described the guilt she felt for not properly saying goodbye or asking forgiveness from her brother, calling it a "black hole in her heart." The tragedy occurred when Yosef Chaim was hit by a passing truck while delivering mail across the street. Mushka recalled the shock and grief that followed, including her mother’s profound sorrow while pregnant with another child. The family chose not to sue the driver, believing that only God controls life and death.

Mushka also revealed the emotional burden her father carried, feeling responsible for Yosef Chaim’s death because he had taken him to work that day. Her father passed away on Yosef Chaim’s birthday, which Mushka saw as a meaningful coincidence. The family had been advised by a rabbi not to visit the grave because Yosef Chaim was under bar mitzvah age, but Mushka eventually sought permission from another rabbi and made the visit alone, as her mother was too overwhelmed.

Finding the grave on the Mount of Olives was challenging, but once there, Mushka expressed her sorrow and forgiveness, finally closing a painful chapter. She then went to the Western Wall to pray for all of Israel, connecting her personal grief to the national suffering. Today, Mushka works as a social media manager helping others share their personal stories, emphasizing that healing from pain can reveal inner strength and bring light to the world. She hopes everyone can find closure for their own painful circles soon.
