Israeli Journalist Libi Alon Mourns Close Friend and Esteemed White House Correspondent Daniel Comptangelo

Israeli journalist Libi Alon expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of her close friend Daniel Comptangelo, an Italian network La7 correspondent based in Washington, who passed away at age 50. Alon shared on Instagram that from her first day at the White House, Comptangelo welcomed her warmly and was always supportive, describing him as not only one of the most respected journalists covering the White House but also a true friend with a kind heart.

Comptangelo reportedly died of a heart attack, according to Italian news agency Adnkronos. He recently made headlines after a phone interview with then-President Donald Trump, which sparked a diplomatic dispute with Italy due to Trump's harsh remarks about the Italian Prime Minister.

An avid sports enthusiast, Comptangelo covered eight Olympic Games and earned recognition for his 2011 documentary The Los Angeles Breakdown, which received an honorable mention at the 53rd Southern California Journalism Awards. He also served as president of the White House Foreign Correspondents Association, representing foreign journalists covering U.S. politics and the White House.

In her Instagram tribute, Alon reflected on their shared memories and the lasting impact of his friendship, saying, "It's hard to imagine the White House without seeing you there. Thank you for the person you were."
