IDF Denies Budget Freeze on Lebanon Border Fortifications Amid Arab Media Claims

A recent report by Israel's military radio station, Galei Tzahal (Galatz), claimed that the Ministry of Defense froze protective fortification work at IDF posts along the Lebanon border due to budgetary issues. According to the report, the Northern Command and the Ministry of Defense withheld payments to contractors responsible for installing defenses against explosive drones, leading to a halt in the work. Additionally, the report stated that 11 other border posts were left without planned fortifications for the same financial reasons.

The Ministry of Defense and the IDF spokesperson strongly denied these allegations, asserting that fortification efforts are ongoing and prioritized. They emphasized that no decision was made to leave any posts unprotected and that the work is progressing according to a phased plan that will ultimately equip all posts with the required defensive measures meeting IDF standards.

Despite the denials, the initial report caused a stir in the Arab media, with outlets such as the Lebanese news site Al-Nashra highlighting Israel's alleged security vulnerabilities along the Lebanon border. This incident adds to ongoing controversies surrounding Galei Tzahal, which has faced accusations of political bias and was subject to a government decision to shut it down last year. However, the closure was delayed by a Supreme Court injunction following petitions against the move.
