Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s Leather Jacket Sells for Nearly $1 Million at Sotheby’s Auction
The rapid rise of artificial intelligence has influenced global economics and even the collectibles market. A leather jacket worn by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently sold at a Sotheby’s auction for $960,000 after 65 bids, far exceeding its initial estimate of $40,000 to $60,000. The jacket, designed by Tom Ford and retailing at $10,000, has been a signature item for Huang, who has worn similar black leather jackets for nearly two decades at product launches, company events, and industry exhibitions.
Huang wore the specific jacket auctioned in 2023 at a Foxconn event in Taipei, Taiwan. Sotheby’s reported that 45 different collectors placed bids on the jacket. The auction was organized as a philanthropic initiative by the Long Journey Foundation, with proceeds benefiting the Edge Institute, a nonprofit focused on innovation. Funds raised will support scholarships and grants for early-stage entrepreneurs and technologists.
Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles, Braham Wachter, expressed that the auction’s response surpassed expectations. Huang has often joked about his distinctive attire, mentioning in 2023 that his wife and daughter help dress him, and in a 2016 Reddit discussion, he referred to himself as "the guy with the leather jacket."
