A powerful earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale struck southern Mexico on Friday, with its epicenter located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Aquiles Serdán in Chiapas state. The tremor was also felt in neighboring Guatemala and El Salvador. Following the quake, the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami alert for parts of the Pacific coasts of Mexico and Guatemala, warning of potentially dangerous waves along a 300-kilometer stretch from the epicenter.
